Guizhou is 90% mountain, was for centuries the poorest province in China, and is consequently the least spoiled. Huangguoshu waterfall, terraced valleys, and villages where the culture isn't a show.

Zhenyuan is built along both banks of a green river inside a gorge, with the old town spanning it. It was a garrison and a trading post, and it's the best-looking small town in Guizhou.
